Spring Within
by June Nazarian
copyright 04-14-2008

Age Rating: 10 to 127

When Heaven spreads its colors
Upon the village green
Awakened is my spring within
Its wondrous pallet seen

The daffodils, the tulips
The honeysuckle vine
Sprout the purple passions
That once were yours and mine

A lollipop of flavors
The skate keys of my heart
A roller coaster playground
All bid to slow depart

I yearn the days so color-filled
As once they all had been
That now are many shades of gray
With bits of rainbow sprinkled in

Let me just say that color is fine, but the most interesting images, both still and moving, have always been captured in black and white (i.e. "shades of gray"). I, for one would rather hear Sinatra in his fifties than his twenties; or Horowitz in Moscow in his 80s, than at Carnegie Hall in his 30s. This is a very nice poem that you could not have written twenty years ago. BTW, I tackled this same theme in my poem, Still Beautiful. Check it out...
