Twilight Whispers
by Susan Brown (Age: 49)
copyright 04-25-2008

Age Rating: 4 to 127

(You and I)

Twilight whispers
Silhouettes against the dark

Can you hear them?

Hearts pulsating
Hair bristling up on the back of our necks

Can you feel them?

Eyes squinting
Selecting shapes as they form now step from behind their stones

Can you see them?

Lungs hyperventilating
Fog cascading in like crashing waves

Can you run?

This is so much fun. Yes, I do remember seeing spooky things that did not exist, being scared silly, and running for my life. I also remember the monsters under my bed. Love the last line "Can you run" because fear can paralyze, especially in dreams. Very enjoyable....June

I can feel on some subliminal plane the eeriness this is supposed to conjure up but doesn't quite make it. The first stanza is by far the best. Maybe if you tightened up the language and sharpened the images the poem would work wonders. Just a thought from an old English teacher. Really.
Mah best,Wayne
