Masks
by Everett (dale) Pogue
copyright 04-12-2008

Age Rating: 7 to 127

Do you ever wear a mask as you run down to the store
or visit with the doctor when he raps upon the door?
You know what I'm saying, masking how you feel.
Smiling when your heart is sad. Saying, "no big deal!"

Hiding hurt when no one calls though promised that they would,
Feeling once again rejection. "He could! I know he could!".
Slipping on a mask for mom; a different one for dad.
Looking like a clown to cover the awful day you had.

We all wear masks at times, I guess, protecting what's inside,
But do we need to cover up all the pain we hide?
Try laughing when you want to laugh. Telling when they ask.
Honesty without a mask is great, but quite a task.

Good poem. Me I'm slowly melting the superglue and pulling the mask from my face. It's hard painful and miserable, but in the end it'll be worth it. I know some people are more tolerable with the masks. That's their choice. I'll raise a living hell in the community once my mask is peeled from me. It's something I've dreamed of. Good luck to you anfd your masks. I've got a flamethrower just in case...

The voice of the writer lingers a bit longer than most, we give direction and place words in rows to expand thoughts and heart, expectations are direction left for the reader, ah but it is their place to follow or just observe life.. good write Walt

You have not watched much daytime TV, have you Dale? Of course not, you're busy writing good poems. But I feel compelled to tell you that we are overrun with people telling us every little thing "that's inside." From celebrities ("My battle with "), to politicians ("I was raised in a one room shack ..."), to the Jerry Springer crowd. Stop the madness. Put your freakin' masks on and keep them on! I personally would rather hear a good yarn. :)

Hi Dale ^^

Been a long time.

We all wear masks, out of self-defense, on an instinctive level, if nothing else. "The world's a stage...." and all of that. But yes, if we all could go through life honestly, this might be a much nicer world.

As I had come to expect: good thoughts, tightly woven, well-presented and developed.

Thank you! ^_^

Frank :)
