Because you firmly took my hand today
And led me to a world of shattered hearts
I feel the stinging anguish it imparts
And sadly turn my face to walk away
You led me with the hand that bore your ring
The symbol of our vow of endless joy
But evil stole, as bandit's final ploy,
All hope our love would lasting passion bring
If only eyes could see through blinding lust
How foolish foibles turn warm hearts to stone
They'd build a house with bricks of constant trust
Where faithful honor never stands alone
For through its windows brightly shines the light
Of wisdom's face discerning wrong from right
