Shadows
by Walter Jones (Age: 62)
copyright 04-22-2008

Age Rating: 13 to 127

I was in the belly of the whale
Tasted the hurt of the soldier
Waiting for the master's hand
Seeing a ship holding fast

Clutching my special box of earth
Kneeling as my time came
Passing the cup of sorrow
As all passed before my eyes

Fields draw open roads of hunger meeting night and souls

Yields of grass and time mumble faster to the sound of brook and time

Twist of grasses grow strong with the limbs of trees bending and holding

Wrist of fate takes the want and need to please every dreamer set

Pursuit of song and sounds upon the altar of reason proceeding in faith

Bruit of ages passing before in parade bribers slowly fading in midst cast

Stroke of fingers on hair left to lie in half covered eyes pleading over sunset

Woke to kisses as seasons find the dance of stars taking gaiting hope met

Powers beyond the wisp of truth working stages of reality standing in hue

Hours take minutes bleating in living as we smile in hold of loving

Smears in wind ripple in never ends in likes of her as I lost her

Years come in auburn eyes wanting to smile as each comes in place

Breasts so full of hunger fill the child in want of feed gathering peace

Tenderness fails to meet needs rolling past every voice seeking rest

Beat of drum on a rabble working a conciliation passing good and evil

Heat escapes to trails passing in mindset and turning for the better and worse

Song echoes as images paint need in want seeing direction move harder

Long heartache moves into shame pulling to grieve as in share of blame

Chase a down turn in wisdom as crying helps no one now

Pace slow in march as the drink goes to a lone too late

Owe as souls ride past expectation placed in crosses on hills

Know well a drifter's watch in amber growing on stones left unturned

Weather of drawing on ribbons etched in the sky

Together we wander as lovers move past sigh

Born of water and deaf of sound

Scorn of never to be found

Number fails me in hope to pursue

Slumber welcomes my new avenue

Over a country in golden heals
Wings of angels
Pen and quill
Rest of the wicked
Lasting fate
Love of my life
Opens the gate
Loved

This offers a rather melancholic thought of thoughts and things that were, remembered now and held, before we claim our final prize. My thoughts, at least.... Rue the day that such as this will all be gone, save as a tome on seldom- greeted shelf. Not my best thoughts, perhaps, but to give you final compliment, this work inspired those final thoughts.
