Some Friends
by Jackie Edwards (Age: 21)
copyright 05-18-2008

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Some friends
Can be compared to
A glorious old forest.
Strong, true, and they withstand the test of time.

Other friends
Can be compared to
Sand flitting through an hourglass.
They never linger, but you never forget the time spent with them.

And yet, those friends
Who are but sand,
Sometimes you want them to be
The friends like the forest.

You cling to them desperately,
For they make you happy,
And you love being their friend
For the sake that they are like a sibling to you.

Sometimes,
The best thing we can do for our friends
Is to let them go,
To allow them to be scattered in the winds.

Even if it hurts,
There's always a chance that they will turn around,
Look at you,
And ask you why you're not coming too.

I was talking with an old friend the other day. We have known each other for over 30 years. We did go about 25 years without talking in person, but we did comment about the fact that true friends will always be true friends. Life leads us different ways sometimes but we will remain friends. This was a very nice poem, Anthony

Really liked this poem a lot. The comparisons to friends were very good. The piece made me smile at times, and feel a bit sad at times. If one has one good friend he/she is indeed rich. I'm glad I stopped by to read this. Keep up the good work.

Friendships come and go. Whatever one's life situation is at a particular time dictates who they are, but true friendships are those that traverse time. just a few of that ilk are made in a lifetime, but they are well worth it! Jackie, I enjoyed your poem, got me thinking....June
