Marathon

I run down narrow roads
Looking for you

I count backwards in years as I breathe
Five, ten, fifteen...now twenty plus

I catch that second wind, I like to think, you had made
Especially for me

I run forward into another day
As you expect me to

I sprint, I jog,
I lope along

I sometimes trip and fall over the edges
Abrupt as they be

I know you're out there
Ahead of me

On another path
Calling my name

I plan to catch up to you
At the end of my race

I want you to know,
I run... to be with you

Everyone always says that loss is hard...duh! I just have another thought though, after the first thoughts of sorrow we should always remember that they will always be with us in our minds. If you believe in the hereafter...they will be with you again. This poem was very nice and kept my attention all the while and I was moved by the story! Great Job, Anthony

Though your subject is sad, the light touches you gave it made it truly a celebration of life.
Some good subtle metaphors, and good images along the way made it a sorrowful joy to read.
Sorry for your loss, thanks for sharing,

Rich

Another wonderful poem, Susan. It's so difficult to lose a loved one, yet we continue along our path while always keeping their memory in mind and heart. I know this from experience. You have certainly captured the sentiment, thanks.............June
