Three Slices of the Pie
by Susan Brown (Age: 49)
copyright 05-10-2008

Age Rating: 10 to 127

*The Viking*

In memory his knavish character
Was generally ringside
Bona Fide
Certified
Hellish spent on homicide

Chainmail protected his face and neck
Riveted links
Aglitter

Ornate bronze breastplate
Adorning his outer
Bemonster

Windings wrapped around his legs
Leather bindings bound
Pulitzer

*The Havingsten*

And what a prize she was to behold this killer vessel
Longships profiling-bowed sails billowing
Seaside

Gilded weathervane above-slotted oars rowing below
Bedside
Oak planked
Graveside

Horns blowing across the foggy lite
Countryside

They came ashore unleashing unspeakable terror
Tapestry
Unfolded

*The Celt*

Enter the Bogtrotter

Half naked Celtic warriors coined rouge resisters
Fought off the Expediter
The Viking
Best they were able until around 1042

Tall rippling muscles insanely deliver
Wildside
Portside
Defending Emerald Hillside

Slingshots firing lead pellets
Penetrator
Staggered some
Learned to live with the rest

Swords beating rhythmically
Against the landing invading shield

Crushing odious Orchestra rampaging
Bona Fide
Certified
Temporally they then subside
And sail away to return another day

Uilleann Pipes
Howl in Celebration

This is a really good piece, but I especially like the last two lines. It's as if Allen Ginsberg popped up in a Dublin pub one night. Which makes me think how great it would be to have Joyce and Ginsberg walking around Dublin, talking about old Viking ships and mythology, and having a pint every block or two. Well done!
