Salt Makes It Taste Better...
by Mary -BrytEyz- Ball (Age: 40)
copyright 08-07-2008

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Holding hands, clammy palms and all

Nervous unsure fingers refusing to let go

Unseen future, hiding heartache, perhaps

Blindly going forth, for this is all you know

Searching eyes, seeking answers, fishing netted

The chase has ended, question is, did you catch her?

A kiss on the cheek is sweet, admittedly

But the salt of her lips makes it taste better

I taste to find it's bland at first, but ALMOST there

A quick glance around the kitchen and I see

The broken and chipped familiar glass dispenser

That converts with a shake or two of salt, shed sparingly

Add a little of this with a pinch of that

Or maybe a splash of milk to make it wetter

Some staples like garlic and pepper and yet

Somehow, salt always makes it taste better

A phrase carelessly tossed by the by

May quickly be a bitter pill to swallow

Pain and heartache follow close behind

And sure as day, regret is sure to follow

     Advice we've thoughtlessly tossed aside

Found again somewhere in God's dusty old love letter

Born again, we choose our words carefully

After all, the Bible said salt would make it taste better

Books and index cards, clipped and cut

Neatly filed away for when we have time

Words hoarded and stored and remembered

For one day they'll make me a rhyme

The perfect recipe, whatever it is

Captures the heart and mind in an emotional fetter

The first ingredient, love, life's salt here on earth

For God knows best... yes, salt makes it all taste better

Beautiful poem...although my images are probably VERY different them expected...But it was still so lovely...like an old photograph flip book or something...if that makes any sence...xD
I can't wait to read more from you!

Once again, taking a cue from "God's dusty old love letter" you've come up with an excellent piece. If I may be so bold, I venture the opinion that this is one of your best works yet, "seasoned with salt" indeed!
Your brother,
Wayne

Very often, that which we write is but an invitation for the reader to do more than read some words. Words don't always tell the truth. Not that the writer intends to deceive the reader, but sometimes the inspiration and the motivation for presenting a work in an esoteric way, allows the reader his/her own delight at finding "messages in a bottle."

I think that if I was preparing something good, my thoughts wouldn't be so much on salt, pepper, and garlic. Maybe a pinch of this and a pinch of that, but I think I'd first look to rosemary, thyme, cinnamon, nutmeg, basil, with a bit of oregano and finally some mountain sage to smooth them all out

Kiss away these lonely tears
Dry my lips and eyes with faerie lace
Hold me close against my fears
And let me see my new-born face.

Frank :)

June, I'm so glad you enjoyed this. You truly ARE someone after my own heart.

And Walt... who, but you, could read so perfectly inbetween the lines... each and every one? Tears...so many shed tears... and yet, what would life be... without them? Life sans pain, living sans love... is not hardly life nor love at all!

Here the wind, questions left open, sort the sound, yes, easy to feel, poets voice, shared in, do not have to wonder, it is clear, salt is in the tears, you write well.. Walt

Oh Mary, Mary, you make me cry. Love certainly is the salt that makes it all taste wonderful. Unkind words are bitter to swallow but we hope to learn once again from "God's dusty old love letter." Lovely! Thanks for this, your works are always captivating to me.......June
