Fishy Tales
by Diana Johnson (Age: 47)
copyright 10-29-2008

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Cap'n grinned his surly grin
readying a tale to unfold,
'bout, "life, death, beer and gin,"
his folly tired, but not too old.

His backwoods boys and good ol' guys,
snort down their truth deflectors,
nodding staunch approval to his lies,
while gulping their numbing nectars.

Every day at Bim's Bar & Grill,
tired stools wear the same ol' faces,
a sad hideaway where time stands still,
and whiskey always chases.

This booze soaked dive features Cap'n,
he's the undisputed King,
nightly they come to worship him,
he's their anchor, they're his team.

It's good to be the anointed host,
just 'cuz he's frightened to go home,
he weaves another tired yarn,
perfecting his bored, defeated tone.

Once he had a family,
a faithful and patient wife,
he preferred strangers over them,
so they chose another life.

It's never a good idea to be presumptuous of an ending when reading a skillful presentation. Advice I've given to so many, yet your words lured me in, played me 'till exhausted, then reeled me in to wonder how this all happened. Doesn't happen very often, that.

My compliments! ^^

Frank :)
