The Getting to Know You Challenge
by Jackie Moranty
copyright 11-01-2001

Age Rating: 7 to 127

I realized after reading my intro that I talked a lot about ranching and writing, but not much about me. So, I thought I'd accept this challenge and see what I come up with.

1. LIVING ARRANGEMENT?
106 acres "ranch" in Wyoming. It's not very big, but I'm working on that. 2 bedroom house, pretty small, but the barn's real nice and has 4 "bedrooms". LOL

2. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING NOW?
The Shawnee Trail by Ralph Compton.

3. WHAT IS ON YOUR MOUSEPAD?
I've got a track ball. I'm using a laptop.

4. FAVOURITE BOARDGAME?
Don't do board games much. I mostly play dominoes, cards and pool.

5. FAVOURITE MAGAZINE?
Western Horseman and the Fence Post

6a. FAVOURITE SMELL?
Horses and fresh hay. Rain, too. I like the smell of rain.

6b. LEAST FAVOURITE SMELL?
Feed lots and skunks.

7. FAVOURITE SOUND?
Cattle lowing, cats purring, horses neighing. Goats make a nice sound, too. I like to hear eagles screech and owls hooting, too.

8. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU THINK OF WHEN YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING?
Coffee. . . Where's the coffee????

9. FAVOURITE COLOR?
Mostly, I just like color, but blue, purple and green are at the top of the list.

10. FAVOURITE FRUIT?
Strawberries, cherries, peaches and bananas.

11. HOW MANY RINGS TO ANSWER THE TELEPHONE?
I try to make it in two, but sometimes the answering machine beats me to it.

12. FUTURE CHILD'S NAME?
I don't think that I'll go there anymore. Always liked the name Allison Faye, though.

13. WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT IN LIFE?
Living without regrets. Treating people the way that you want to be treated so that you don't have to apologize later.

14. FAVOURITE FOOD?
Prime rib, rare (brand it and bring it on), lots of horseradish on the side, baked potato with lots of sour cream and butter. Either spinach or broccoli for a veggie.

15. CHOCOLATE OR VANILLA?
There is something other than chocolate?

16. DO YOU DRIVE FAST?
Yeah, I drive too fast a lot of the time. Unless I'm hauling horses. Sometimes even then if I'm on the highway. Gotta get to the next go.

17. DO YOU SLEEP WITH A STUFFED ANIMAL?
Yeah, I do that, too. I have a big horse and a bear that I sleep with. I'm still looking for the perfect volunteer to take their place.

18. STORMS: COOL OR SCARY?
Depends on the storm. I usually think they're pretty cool until the fire starts and I have to help fight it.

19. WHAT TYPE WAS YOUR FIRST CAR?
Believe it or not, it was a '74 Chevy Nova SS. If I had to do ranch chores, I drove the ranch truck. I had a car to go to school and town in. It ran for a long time, too. My other car was a horse.

20. IF YOU COULD MEET ONE PERSON, DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO WOULD IT
BE?

Jesus Christ. I would love to listen to Him and get a little more enlightenment on things than I have now.

21.What is your favorite alcoholic drink?
I don't drink a bunch, and when I do, it's usually jsut a beer. Mostly rodeo beer. It's hard to keep it cold when it's sitting in the gooseneck of the trailer or the bed of the truck for a long time.

22. What is your zodiac sign?
Capricorn. January 2, 1964 is when I was born. I'm a goat. ROFLOL In the Chinese thing, I'm a dragon.

23. Do you eat the stems of broccoli?
Yeah! Can't waste any part of broccoli.

24. What would be your favorite job in the world?
I'm there. I like all the hats I wear. I love ranching, even if I can't make a living at it. I love doing massage therapy. I can make a living at that, but it's tough sometimes.

25. What is your favorite hair color?
I like dark hair. I have dark hair. Used to follow blondes around, but got over that. I'm getting in that age range where if they HAVE hair, I'm doing pretty good. LOL

26. Have you ever been in love?
Oh, yeah, but only once. Could be again. If the right guy came along.

27. Is your glass half full or half empty?
Half full most times. I can get a little overwhelmed, though and start to thinking the other way.

28. What are your favorite movies?
In Pursuit of Honor. The Jack Bull. The Patriot was good, too. My favorite kid's movies are The Emperor's New Groove, Tarzan, Mighty Joe Young and Mulan. I watch more kid's movies than adult, can you tell?

29. Do you use the right keys when using the keyboard?
If I didn't you'd have trouble deciphering this.

30. What is under your bed?
Dust bunnies and cats.

31. What is your favorite number?
I like 7 or 5.

32. What is your favorite sport to watch?
Need you ask? It would be rodeo. I'm a huge fan of bulldogging. I can't watch for very long, though. I have to hear my number called, or I'm not happy. (I'm a roper, by the way, not a bulldogger. That would be going way too far for me.)

33. Who is your current favorite band or recording artist.?
I've got a bunch. There's a bunch of good music out there. I think that my favorite would be Marty Robbins, though. I like Emmylou Harris, too. That's a tough one.

34. Are you religious?
You bet. Look how I live! I have to believe in God, just to survive! LOL I'm kidding. I am very religeous, though. Should show up at church more often, but I think that God knows that I'm siding Him.

O.K., that's more who I am than what I am. Not much else to tell.

Dust Rhinos? Hmmm, I'll have to think on that one. Maybe they'd scare the cats. Should let that carpet get a little worse under there.

Bob, this is a family show, couldn't quite say it that way. Yes, that is the way I usually say it unless my daughter's around.

Bev, you should try this challenge, it's one of the easier ones. It was the ABC thing that had me stumped.

Jackie

Hi, Jackie! Pleasedtameetcha. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my work. Thanks also for answering the challenge. I think it helps to get a better idea of who you're reading. Good answers with the politically incorrect gaffe: "dust bunnies". I'm here to tell you that I resemble that remark, and the politically correct designation is now "dust rhinos". Thank you for reading my comment, and (hopefully) continuing your writing career without the political comments! Sincerely (I mean it!) M.E. (Bunny) Eastveld.

"Brand it and bring it on"? Come now, euphemisms are okay, but don't try to convince me that you don't know the REAL saying... I'll give you a hint. It starts out "Knock the horns off, wipe its a-- and put it on a plate!" Heehee...

Did you read that an 18-year-old kid from Raymor, Missouri just won $400,000+ for winning the National Bullriding Championship? I listened to an interview with him on the radio, and somehow it seemed to me that the boy enjoyed it just a little bit too much! LOL There's something special about a youngster who enjoys matching brains versus brawn with a nineteen-hundred pound snorting, bucking, kicking, angry personification of the devil!

This was fun to read! I'm glad I read this!

What a fun challenge! I read this challenge in other pages too...and love it. Great way to learn more about one another. And I really enjoyed learning more about you. =o)

Guess I should try this challenge...and see what I come up with.

David, Robert and Sam, I'm also pleased to know y'all. A close friend of mine said once that he couldn't keep up my schedule because I was "like a maggot in a campfire". I just jumped around all over the place. I made him change "maggot" to "flea". I didn't like being thought of that way. LOL Anyway, I love the way that I live and the things that I do, and, yes, it was probably unnecessary for me to accept this challenge, my writing pretty much tells everyone who I am, but it was fun just the same. I'm glad to be here and to know everyone and let them get to know me. Jackie

Hi Jackie, All the way from little ol' New Zealand! Just love your writing! And I agree. They'd sound great read around the camp fire.
Kind regards,

Thanks, both of you. It is a nice challenge, Terry. I was reading though some older writes and found it. It's a neat way for all of us to get to know each other. Jackie
