Got annoying popups? READ THIS
by Robert Betts (Age: 62)
copyright 11-01-2001

Age Rating: 10 to 127

A friend recently sent me a copy of Yo Mama, Osama. She innocently thought it was a cute game for a good cause. My virus program, which scanns all incoming email, did not see it as a virus. Technically it isn't. It's a trojan. I opened it, thought it rather silly (I never play computer games) then uninstalled it.

Lately I've been getting annoying popup advertisments. By pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del (once), I could see the running programs. One seemed new and I decided to do a web search to see if I could find out anything about it. I used Dogpile.com which to my thinking is one of the best. I typed 'Wnad' into the search box and searched. In the results I saw something about Yo Mama, Osama, so I followed it.

Seems the money that they are donating to the Red Cross is coming from a Trojan they plant on the unsuspecting person who opens the program. It installs adware which is NOT removed when you uninstall Yo Mama, Osama. This creates random popup advertisments as you surf the web.

The perpetrators of this scheme, Twistedhumor.com refuse to comment.

To get rid of this "junk" is a bit complex but you can follow the link below to discover how. The registry entry you need to remove can be accessed by choosing Start-Run-Regedit. Then seach carefully for the key you need to delete. A right mouse click gets you a menu which will have delete on it.

To discover if you have it, just do as I did, ctrl-alt-del (once) and look for Wnad. If you see that, you have it. Then click cancel.

Just been trawling deep and discovered this useful advice. I receive annoying popups called Messenger Service which I immediately delete and NEVER open 'unknowns' or games. However, no use being complacent and I will have a looksee based on your advbice. Many thanks! DAWN in UK

Bob, thank you for this warning and the instructions with the link to deal with it. I never recieved that email. But I'm going to check later anyhow. And I'm going to send this email to my friend as he tends to get these types of emails....although I'm able to access his email now and he hasn't received that one either. Still, its smart to check anyway.

I got this too Bob, but after my reccent virus scare I did not open it. Unless I am absolutely sure that there is nothing wrong with an attachment I do not open it. I still have it but have just deleted it now. Thanx for the warning Bob, we must all be vigilant against any viruses regardless of what they do.
