It was hot inside on this night and I stepped out to have a smoke.
I am 40 years old and for no reason I looked at the sky.
There it was a falling star, the very first I ever saw.
I made a wish and hoped that it would come true.
And I thought of you.
I smiled and took a good long drink off my coke.
Got nostalgic and thought about the years gone by.
Seeing the falling star with a certain awe.
Thought about all I'd been through.
No surprises...nothing new.
A falling star, alone in the night, just smiling.
Crushing out my cigarette, still watching the sky.
Watching for still more falling stars and wishes.
Driftily the clouds cover the moon and then the moon reappears.
Breezes swirling around me,refreshing and cool.
I look at the sky one last time, just thinking.
Walking on and I give a soft little sigh.
Living for my wishes.
Maybe in another 40 years another falling star will appear.
Wish well and be no fool.
