Not Too Old

by Mae Futter Stein

Age Rating: 4 +

As time grows short and life grows old,
Our memories of past years unfold.
Inputs of history we've lived run through it
When thoughts are fuzzy, we paste and glue it.

Growing older is a child's dream. Life is not easy.
Like warm sun on face, cold wind is too breezy.
It would be a fantasy, if life were a tale
Of ferries and wishes sent in the mail.

Babies did not come by time or by manual.
Parents are not all on a psychology channel.
We do our best, with what we are given,
The morals we set forth and life for enliven.

One day we wake from our dreams of gold.
We watch our children now growing old.
It is time to celebrate, try some vacations,
Enjoy what is now for happy occasions.

Sing, rejoice, with your musical cries.
Dance a dream with your knowledgeable eyes.
Kick and laugh, while your thoughts take hold
If you feel in your heart that your not too old.

Values are given words and words are shared with the readers who try to get nearer to the values conveyed by the poet. Many a poet has said the same in many different ways but every time a new work appears, the subject gets a new life.
Yes, you are right in saying it so simply, yet so emphatically, that it is the destiny of one and all.
Life is perhaps the most written about subject but I believe and know that every poet or writer adds to it.
Your work is really praiseworthy. Be assured, poetry is not dead but the people who really understand the music of words are diminishing in numbers and on the other hand the people who foolishly rejoice in the clamor of the nonsense of the world are on the rise.
Excellent work!
God bless you

Thank you so much for your kind words on my poem
"Not Too Old." So many thoughts in my heart and head that I could write about, I just need a subject to get started. You give me the insinuative to keep going. Everyone tells me that poetry is dead, but you tell me it is alive.
Thanks, my friends.............Annamae
