My Most Memorable Christmas
by Betty Eskdale (Age: 63)
copyright 11-04-2001

Age Rating: 1 to 127

Forgive me for making this offering in rhyme
But I find prose hard at the best of time.
The Christmas I cherish is but one year past,
Though I thrill to the others, the best one was last.
I build up my memories and store them with care
And add them to Christmases past, that are there;
Additional memories add joy to the day
I remember my feelings and store them away;
So the happy enforcement that all of these give
Color with gladness the day that I live.
And my joy in the gifts and the joy of my kids,
My husband's eyes sparkling 'neath heavy eyelids,
The cold early morn warmed by cocoa or tea,
The gifts still unspoiled waiting under the tree;
The puppy I've longed for, of black, white and gold
A wee baby collie, a joy to behold.
My children now older and so well aware
Of the beauty of giving and how much we care.
The scents of the oranges, the turkey and tree
As the girls' faces glow at the sights that they see;
The crackling of tissues, the tinkles and tears
As presents are opened and display their wares;
The warm glow of loving, of being loved much,
A kiss on my cheek, my baby's soft touch
And the small arms that hug me bring joy to my life
And again I am glad that I'm mother and wife;
It's not what we give and not what we get
But joy in each other makes the best Christmas yet
But the best of all reasons, the why of this poem
T'was the very first ever in our very own home.

Good point. Christmas has always been my favorite time of year. And, by adding all the memories and experiences together, it does make the last Christmas the best. And that means the one to come will be even better. What a wonderful thought.

I am hoping it will work out, Miki et al driving, Sus flying (thank heaven for air miles, I had enough) and Mike and Lisa will bring kids in from MJaw for dinner. First time both of our girls will be at our home at the same time, since we moved here. And darling James....

Nicely done, Boog! Mike and Lisa coming, eh? You guys should have fun. I'll send you some JPEG's of Mikey in his Texaco Fireman's hat...take care, Bunny

Betty, this was a great one, I too love Christmas, in fact I think everyone does. Your memories about this great time was very entertaining.

Well done!

Thank you, I am very excited about Christmas this year, having my brother and his wife come (we haven't been together for Christmas since we were kids, I hope I can rekindle those feelings for them too!)
