A Wink Of The Moon

by Richard Reed Jr
copyright 10-08-2009

Age Rating: 7 +

Choking off
a playful heart's
elation
at its crest
the once euphoric
high tide inside
slowly slips afar
from the harbor
of its dreams

lost
in an ocean of longing
pushed farther
floating
pulled deeply
sinking

caught by clashing currents
drowning
in the sullen undertow
and the wink of an unforgiving moon

It's been a really long time. I had to stop by and at least read a few things you've been writing since I was last on. ;]
At first I thought this work was going to be a whimsical and sweet poem when I looked at the title. As I read, I realized it was a more serious piece. There is a lot of good imagery here. I really like the way you described the emotion throughout the poem. It's construction is clever indeed. Hope to see you writing more soon. =]

I really liked the way in which you utilized the states of the ocean to describe the states of emotion. Very effective. Your word choice allows the reader to almost see and feel what you are describing. Well done!

The combination of Eastern and Western philosophies and disciplines is very nicely combined in this work, Rich. Leave it to the Master's Master and true miracles will be wrought. ^_^

Great job!! I agree this work has a great flow and the words grab at you while reading this. Your use or words paints a great photo of the work. Very moving and a job well done.

Absolutely everything ebbs and flows whether it be by the light, nearness or wink of the moon. Elation must wane and so does sorrow. But the unforgiving moon is always there to blink its eye, take the moment's picture. Moving piece with interesting places to travel note -- all within the mind. -Alan

Hi Rich, remember me?!? I have been having such a dry spell with my writing, but I stop by now and then, and tonight, I stumbled across this work of yours. I fell in love with a couple of the phrases in here. First is "...the harbor of its dreams..." I think of all my dreams filling a huge basin. "...an ocean of longing..." makes my heart ache with want. And lastly, "...the wink of an unforgiving moon..." That one gave me chills, but I see a huge harvest moon on a scary, chilly fall night.
I really enjoyed this one! Hope all is well with you and yours!
