At Sixty
by Cynthia Baello (Age: 60)
copyright 10-23-2009

Age Rating: 16 to 127

At sixty, one will surely find
There is very little trace
Of fleeting dreams in aging minds -
There's just some empty space.

At sixty, one has excess time
For sadness and regrets,
Unshed tears, lost in years -
A place gray memories are set.

At sixty, there is no hope
To mend the pained and brokened heart,
The failing sight now try to grope
At prospects that depart.

At sixty, prayers lost and said
Like ghosts now randomly returning -
Each night, as one there lays in bed
To God his peace he will be making.

From this I have learned of senescence being real.Within the realism there sets the notion that memories have no colour, they are simply fragments that are known to the soul, and from that fruition there is a colour that only the soul needs to see and thrive within. This is a praiseworthy write that I absolutely found to be bedazzling.Sincerely,Eirc

Thank you Mae and Raja, and Alan too. This seems a "past 40's" discussion :-) so here goes. These thoughts were actually my late brother's musings on his deathbed last March, 2009, and it also jolted me into the realization that he was 58, not wanting to die, and I was 59, not wanting to go on to 60, and the truth that Time has passed us by so quickly we still had dreams to fulfill.
The regrets came too for precious (and few) times we needed to share with each other that now was lost. I appreciate your thoughts and reflectionsa on this poem--Maraming Salamat!
(Many thanks!)

Cynthia

Hi Cynthia,
Nice words, wait till you're seventy. ha ha.
Sometimes I look at people talking to me and I just want to tell them I don't know what they are talking about, but I just smile and nod. Most people can't believe I'm over seventy. Some times I feel it, other times I don't. Sixty went so fast, and years are still spinning.
Nice poem.....Hugs, Mae

Cynthia,
You have touched me somewhere and in a way reminded me that in a decade or so I would be reaching the mentioned age, not that I fear the reality, if alive, but it shows the clear vision of the time which the mentioned age suggests.
These lines
There is very little trace
Of fleeting dreams in aging minds

I can very honestly say that are among the best of the poetic presentation of imagery that I have come across in my life time. "Fleeting dreams in aging mind" really extraordinary yet highly eloquent way of presentation.
Wonderful write
God bless you
Rajasir

Do I find the author down or just reflective? We are the same age and there are so many things we can capitalize on with the foundation built on the last 59 years. We are young and have plenty to do and in a positive light.

Nicely put and and valiant write. Poetic to a point of sadness. Chin up. -Alan
