A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To My Life..
by M.E. (Bunny) Eastveld (Age: 54)
copyright 11-06-2001

Age Rating: 13 to 127

I must lead a charmed life.
Either that or I'm really a cat in disguise,
it seems that I have nine lives...
But I'm not sure how many are gone...

I've been married (too young) and then
divorced.
I've made other mistakes in my love life,
been a rocky course..
And just when I gave up on men
for life, I swore...
Along came Les and knocked on the door
of my heart.

His smile brightens my day,
he lights up a room!
"Love me love my horse",
I said when we met, then boom
He's divorced
and here we are on the ranch.
We've a number of horses, and I find joy everyday,
In seeing them out in the pasture at play.

We've had some "bad luck" since we got together,
and stormy times that together we weather..
A fire, horse deaths, reversals of fortune,
But along with these things we found value
in new friendships,
and this helps the tension
of everyday life.

I've broken bones, my neck, been shot in the head
I've had knee surgeries, and now have a new knee, instead
of a job which I need... the bills pile up,
but somehow we just get our noses above water, Chins up.
But through all of this, I think that I've learned
the value of life's lessons, and
friendships well-earned.

Remember my friends and enemies, too
When you start to feel sorry for yourself,
Along comes someone in worse shape than you,
and with courage to spare,
they work long and hard to be "normal"
and not feel sorry for themselves.

It's a shame to miss out on living your life,
by feeling sorry for your situation or station in life.
Live, laugh, enjoy the good times,
But most of all love yourself
and be kind enough to you
to allow yourself to laugh at you
once in a while..
too serious leads to ulcers, and sour outlooks on life
And lord knows we've all got enough of the strife
that everyday brings.

The shooting was a drive by, while I was sitting at a red light. Bunny (Right in front of the hospital I used to work at)

Thank you all for the kind words. This is, indeed a strong and friendly community. someone once told me that I should write my life story. Hello!!! Who'd believe it. I was born to experience the things that I have, and I'm sure there's another something coming along down th pike...it better be stronger than me!! Bunny (BTW: my doc said no riding for 3 - 6 months, I told him I'd ride in 8 weeks. Last Friday was 8 weeks post op. I rode on Saturday! Science and will power triumphs!)

Bless Les for coming to your aid,
You've grown from any mistakes you've made
Others may gripe and moan and weep
But with chores to do and promises to keep
You get right back up and dust yourself off
(Despite sometimes, a smoker's cough)
I'm so glad you found that "horsey place"
It gives you room, it gives you space
To think aboard your Justin steed
And where you've everything you need
To bring you joy and comforts too
There's one more thing I wish for you
Some money!!!$$$$$!!!!

Bunny, Great write. Life's ups and downs are always going to be there. The one thing I haven't broken is my neck. I've broken just about everything else, but not my neck. That's a nasty one. Getting shot would be about the ultimate disaster, too. You've sure been through it, though. Better start counting up those lives. Jackie

Bunny, I love the optomestic overall feeling of this poem. You've had so much happen yet you've risen above it and continued to move forward. Its wonderful when you meet a life partner/best friend who is there in all ways...no matter what twists life throws out.

Excellent poem from a very strong woman! Well done!

You're engaged in an interesting journey. I pity the unadventurous souls who don't understand the concept of paying the piper. Now it's your turn to dance. Nice job, Bunny...

This was a nice little read. I thought I had been through a lot over the years but when I read you saying that you had been shot in the head I thought, "BlO%^Y Hell!"

Glad you came through it all.
