The Consecration Of Man

by Richard Reed Jr
copyright 02-10-2010

Age Rating: 10 +

Whether we become interred with earth
or burned in hot fire leaving ashes in our wake
we keep our hearts to give rather than to take
and each day to bring someone mirth
for all belong to one another
friend to friend and brother joined to brother

Part of the whole entirely universal
like synchronizing waves make up the ocean
unifying from one great grand dispersal
gravitational forces keep us all in motion
as aflame each day does rise and fall
we ride around this spinning ball

And consecrate man as sacrament
because we alone have passion
perhaps we are no accident
not by chance we're woven into fashion
yet some seem to think so
that we with him are joined by soul

Whether we came here by evolution
or the mysterious hand of creationism
or some other intelligent or chance solution
and though one's shoulders shrug agnosticism
while we consume everything that lies outside
germs are eagerly eating us inside

Much to think in this fascinating piece. We are here. Where did we come from? Why? And other things we can ponder as we read and reread this most readable verse. Good going!

Mystery remains unsolved, poet keeps on marveling, readers continue to rejoice, and the beautiful lines keep on flowing. You have really touched some part of the human existence, especially my love for my pets is really inexplicable, for I see the light of divinity in every living soul.
Your poems have always been enlightening and informative. This is also a wonderful piece of writing.
God bless you
Rajasir

Hi Richard,
If only we knew..It is most likely true that agnosticism consumes everything outside and germs eat us, eagerly inside. We are only animal, vegetable, or oil like every thing else on earth, but much smarter. Nice poem. Very educational. Always, Mae

In a sense we are sanctified by what you write. Our passion replaces our instincts while other beings apparently cannot do that. I don't want to believe that the unconditional love my dog gives me is merely instinct but I think you are right. Beautifully put together and a sweet, beautiful, sort of universal verse. I wonder if animals can write poetry in their own language? Probably not -- but they can produce onomatopoeia. Great piece. -Alan :-)
