Just Step Outside
by Jackie Moranty
copyright 11-12-2001

Age Rating: 7 to 127

I wish you happiness and no more distress,
I wish you could be free.
I wish you could ride with me and hide,
From all your misery.

Away from the din, bury your sin,
Oh, all the things you’d see.
Just step outside, swallow your pride,
Take my hand, and follow me.

Where the cougar roars and the eagles soar,
On the light summers breeze.
The meadowlarks sing, the echoes ring,
A life that’s filled with ease.

You can find peace, get your release,
If you’d ride out with me today,
The mountains, they shine like the holiest of shrines,
It will take your breath away.

The life that you seek is just up the Peaks,
I can show you where it lies.
We’ll climb the face, find the perfect place,
To look off across the Divide.

I’ll take you there, lay down your cares,
Pick up your saddle and ride,
Beside me you’d see how great life could be,
If you’d just step outside.

The Medicine Wheel would give you the feel,
Of people from long ago,
And the Big Horns sit storming ‘cross the plains of Wyoming,
The sight can rattle the soul.

I know of places, wild, untamed spaces,
From Wyoming to New Mexico.
We could tame rivers, be takers not givers,
From Utah to Colorado.

I’ll take you there, just lay down your cares,
Come on, saddle up, let’s ride.
The whole world is waiting, it’s ours for the taking,
If only you’d step outside.

For my friend, Chuck. Come on, just step outside.

You never know, Billy, we might meet up long enough to tell a few tales. Lord knows I have plent of them. Jackie

Thanks, Lyle. I'll have to check out Robert Service. Sounds like he could be an interesting read. Jackie

A great poem, reminiscent of my favorite poet, Robert W. Service (Cremation of Sam McGhee, Shooting of Dan McGrew, etc.). Liked it alot!

Thanks, John. I'm glad you liked it. It's getting to be one of my favorites, too. Jackie

Another fine read Jackie, my thoughts are very similar to the rest of the comments here so I shall not bore you with them LOL.

LOL, Bev, I know this is pretty out of character for me. I'm not your basic mush kitten.

Chuck can resist anything that's not in his plan. He's resisting this pretty dang good. I thought sure it would get his attention, but I guess not. . . Jackie

Hey Jackie, you gone all sentimental and mushy on me? Geesh, where did all that hardness go. Once bounce off a horse and your brain turns into soup. ~~laughing hard~~

Awwwww, Jackie this is so sweet. It would actually make one really sweet C&W song. Maybe Reba M can sing it for you. How can Chuck resist such beautiful sentiments.

LOL, David. This one did turn out really nice, didn't it? I'm hoping that the effects of the concussion stay around and I just get rid of the headache and funny vision. I don't know that telling a publisher that getting a concussion made me a better writer would be a good idea, though. Jackie

Chuck really needs a little adventure like this. For that matter, everyone does. Saddle up, Robert, you might as well come along, too. Jackie

Thank you all, I sure liked this one. It wouldn't stop coming even with Darvon. LOL I'm glad that you all enjoyed it. Jackie

If this is the result of a concussion, I suggest you go do it again! Heehee... just kidding, but this is wonderful! Actually, I think I like it more than anything else you've showed us here. You, GO, girl! Love it!

O.K., I must be getting over the concussion. This one wouldn't stop coming! I feel better already. Jackie
