The Cat Walk
by Eric Carrillo (Age: 28)
copyright 11-22-2001

Age Rating: 7 to 127

This is a republication, that I wrote on march 5, 2001.

I'm a skier, not really an expert, but I go when ever I have a
chance. What I'm about to explain, is for those who have not
been down hill skiing. In skiing, there are sometimes "cat
walks." A cat walk is when the run, that is the trail you ski
on, becomes somewhat flat for a short ways. If you do not have
enough momentum, you sometimes come to a stop in the middle
of the run. That can be annoying, because, then you have to walk
the rest of the way, at least until the trail becomes steep
again. I promise, that there is appoint to this explanation...
*The point*
There's times when life just seems to stop, everything is now
in slow motion. The cat walk suddenly comes up. There is not
sufficient momentum, and the walking begins. During this time
there are many plans, and anticipations for the future. It is a
period of waiting, a time of frustration. Nothing is happening,
it all must wait, the cat walk seems to stretch on forever. In
the distance the trail begins to slope down, there are bumps/jumps and
sharp sudden turns, they represent the thrills, and the joys of
life, when one makes it over them. And when one false on those
bumps, they are but trials, but the trail continues to slope
down, if one gets up, and still has confidence left, there is
still enough slope to finish the run. But the cat walk seems
to stretch on forever. And the slope seems so far away. It is hard
to wait for things to happen. Sometimes the energy that powers
those legs across that cat walk begins to fade. Hang on, just a
little longer, the excitement awaits beyond the cat walk...

Although I've never had the chance to ski as living in South Georgia is not condusive to snow or cold weather, I have been on that 'cat walk' in my life many times. A wonderful read.

Thanks, Eric. I have trouble remembering that life has it's ups and downs. Whenever I get down, I always think that I'm going to end up staying there. It's hard for me to get back up. Great essay. Jackie
