Johnny
by Betty Eskdale (Age: 63)
copyright 11-22-2001

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Johnny, someone has told me that you’ve been untrue
I don’t want to believe that, it would make me blue
Please tell me that you still love me, I still love you.

I asked you if it was a lie
That you could really make me cry
You couldn’t look me in the eye
Johnny I’m so blue.
I miss your walk, the way you talk and oh the way you always smile
I sit alone by the telephone wondering all the while

Johnny, do you still love me, as I love you ?
Do you still think of me like you used to do?
If you love me please come back
I love you so.

I asked you if it was a lie
That you could really make me cry
You couldn’t look me in the eye
Johnny I’m so blue;
I miss your walk, the way you talk and oh the way you used to smile
I sit alone by the telephone wondering all the while
Wondering all the while, wondering all the while.

This was written long before I ever had a date, I was a late bloomer and had strict parents, but I could dream. The music of the time was quite filled with angst and I'm sure we all felt it...

I hear the song as it would be performed by Lesely Gore. Sounds like you could have written songs for her....

I liked this one a lot Betty, you did not need to write the comment after it for the poem really does say it all.

Quite a few of us 'For many reasons' were late starters when it came to loving, does not matter much when things turn out good in the end.

The Shangri-La's were very likely my target, for that and Michael... I wrote those so long ago, must have been about 15, and I even have music for them, so they won't leave my memory...

This one sounds like a song for the "Shangri-La's". C'mon Boog, scrub off those tears, get out the clearasil and go hunting! Buns

Boy, Betty, this is a sad one. Course, love lost is aways sad until we find ourselves another love. Great poem. Jackie

Right as usual Robert, I wrote it when I didn't even know what love was, you know, teen age angst...so poignant, seems like the strongest kind of love at the time...
