T ell me the story about the pilgrims,
H ow they landed at Plymouth rock
A nd the weather gave them quite a shock
N othing prepared them for such grim times
K ernels of corn, little to eat
S haring what they had
G iving to the local people
I ndian and white side by side
V ery close to starvation
I nner strength helping to survive
N ow we celebrate their bravery
G ood to give Thanks to God.

B ounteous harvest sometimes
L ess at other times
E veryone trying to make the best of it
S haring and being glad to do it
S aying Thanks again and again
I n the new country where freedom reigns
N ew world, new ideas, new communities
G ive thanks again, renew your gratitude
S ome don't have wha t you take for granted.....

One nation under God comes to mind when reading this. I think my grandson Takota Gray Eagle 2/15/08 would enjoy this poem just as much as my other grandkids...French, Irish...multi variety. Being thankful is universal.

Kind read
Thank you,
Susan

It is nice to see history presented in poetry. Very well written.

It is my belief that throughout history, conquered races/countries were either assimilated or destroyed. Probably unnecessarily so, however, I get a tad touchy when some 16 year old aboriginal from North America tells me "he" was here first. No, I was here before him. I'm a native Canadian, born here, but without the benefits of "Treaty status". I think you've gone and opened another can of worms! Buns

LOL, Robert, you break me up; yet it is true, we invaded their country and now they look for compensation. I always looked at them with admiration in the cowboy movies, each tribe seemed to have a special talent, for intstance today we have the steel workers who are really outstanding, fearless of heights. If we can share and care, we all benefit.
