As I sit here alone, the log fire burning bright.
In the corner, the Christmas tree
With its coloured flickering lights.
I still remember clearly
Those words that you said,
"I'll be good, Dad,"
"Please, Don't make me go to bed."
Many Christmas Eves
Have passed since then.
And I remember them just like, yesterday
My memory haunts me, when in my mind,
I hear you say,
"Don't make me, go to bed, "
"And I'll be good"
"Don't make me go to bed, I'll be good"
"I'll be good"
"You know I really would, if only I could"
"Don't make me go to bed,
I promise, I'll be good"
"You know I really would, if only I could"
I remember the times that you taunted me,
Your mischievousness, your naughtiness,
And your wily ways.
How you tugged at my heart strings
Away back then.
And today, while I sit alone,
You're doing it again.
"Don't make me go to bed, I'll be good"
"I'll be good"
"You know I love you Dad, and if I could"
"I'd be with you now, and I'd show you how"
"Your love taught me"
"You know I really would, if only I could"
