Things He'll Never Know
by Jackie Moranty
copyright 12-06-2001

Age Rating: 13 to 127

“I didn’t know you wore glasses. . .”
“Oh, there’s lots that you don’t know,
Like my favorite perfume’s Obsession,
My favorite flower is the rose.

I have a tiny scar,
Right on the tip of my chin,
I fell off a horse when I was four,
It bled like a stuck pig. . .

I’m not good with finances,
I never lock my back door,
I like western novels,
I don't like violence and gore.

I don’t sleep on a pillow,
I pull the covers up over my head,
I love the rain in springtime,
And the smell of fresh-baked bread.

The "National Anthem" and sappy movies,
And the circus make me cry,
I just get real emotional,
I’ve always wondered why.

You know I love the rodeo,
I also love to dance,
I go out and boot scoot,
Every time I get the chance.”

Suddenly, I realized,
He wasn’t listening.
So I stopped and said,
“I guess that’s enough about me.”

He said, “I talk about me all the time.
You’ve heard it all before.”
I just sat quiet for a while,
You could hear the silence roar.

“You tell me about your day at work,
And how you’re dissatisfied.
You tell me that you hate your job,
How they take you for a ride.

That doesn’t tell me your after-shave,
It doesn’t tell me anything,
If you have an obsession with your teeth,
Or if you like the rain in spring.”

Everything went quiet again,
I knew that he didn’t care,
So I made up some excuse,
And bee-lined it out of there.

I guess I wasn’t thinking,
Or paying attention to what I said.
I walked out to my pick up,
Just wishing I was dead.

I got in and drove away,
Tears brimming in my eyes.
He may know more than he needs to,
But he won’t know how I hurt inside.

I'm just hoping that if Mr. Right shows up with me sleeping in the chair he'll say, "Honey, you go take a shower and go to bed, I'll take over for the next 12 hours. . . " THAT would be wonderful. LOL Jackie

Oh LOL Jackie, when you wake up in your kitchen chair after falling asleep in your overalls, MR Right will be cooking you pancakes and waffles and all kinds of heart clogging comfort foods. :-) One can hope, anyway. I think beelining it outta there was your best choice; there's no sense trying to keep something going with someone who doesn't have the depth to find out "who" you are. Doesn't make it hurt less, but maybe it helps to keep reminding oneself of that... ::sigh::
This was a very touching poem. Once more, you tapped into readers' emotions, judging by all the "I feel your pain" comments.
:-) Nan

Thanks Kay Lee. I'll just stick with horses for awhile. . . Jackie

AW! He not worthy of you, or your pain.
Very well done.

Thanks, David, LOL, with my luck, when he shows up, I'll be sleeping in a kitchen chair in my coveralls after calving for 12 hours. Jackie

Oh, Robert, it's just another day in paradise. I've got people trying to set me up all over the place and I'm a little burned out on it. I'm going to get out there and chase a few cows and get over it. Jackie

You and Bob are both right, it's those little things that make any relationship work. It's those little things that hurt the worst when they're not recognized, too. Jackie

***BLOW AWAY WIND TO ALASKA! LET JACKIE RIDE!***

I tried Jackie....I really tried. After all the support you gave me this week, I wanted to do a favour back. I hope that the wind spirits hear me and let you get out to ride!

The poem is very powerful. You are so correct, the work, the mad-on's and all that stuff...it doesn't really matter in the end. In the end are the emotions, the little things that matter. It's those little things that hit with the heart and soul, that connect two people together. Without the depth there isn't a relationship - either it's a superficial friendship or a counselling relationship. It's not much more.

Ok, I wrote a book **g** Can you tell this really touched me deeply? Great write!

Thanks, Bob. I'm kinda thinking the same thing you are, the winds of change are blowing. Could end up being a tornado, too. Jackie

12-06-2001 Bob Church

Sometimes the little things count the most... and hurt the most when they're not recognized. I hesitate to say 'nice read' because I felt your pain, but it was quite effective in conveying your mood. Take heart, the winds are blowing even now. Thanks for sharing this with us.

This is the third sad one in a week! I wish the weather would clear so I could go ride. . . Jackie
