A Country Christmas Poem
by M.E. (Bunny) Eastveld (Age: 54)
copyright 12-07-2001

Age Rating: 13 to 127

Twas the night before Christmas,
and all 'round the farm.
there were creatures a stirrin'
specially in the barn.

The oat bin was locked
with a special padlock,
in case Santa thought he'd get free oats..
for his reindeer, not.

The horses were bedded,
tucked in for the night,
with plenty of straw
to keep their coats right.

The barn was warm,
like a good barn should be,
and the horses somewhat restless,
oh, me!

When all of a sudden,
I heard a strange noise...
It couldn't be Justin escaping...
not the boys!

I peered out the window,
myopic, I think,
it seemed there were eight tiny reindeer
at the trough, taking a drink.

A fat guy in a red suit was hanging around,
he stood by the barn door,
not making a sound,
I waited a minute then heard a loud thunk,
he reeled toward a sled...
(I think he was drunk!)

Then I heard him call softly to the eight tiny deers,
"Lets get going you guys we ain't got all year!"

And then a voice trailing off into the night,
Merry Christmas to All and to All a Good Night!

This poem is very cute! I could imagine good old St. Nick staggering around outside...

Bunny,
Definitely a poem for all of us "Big" Toys-R-Us kids! I really enjoyed it. My teenagers thought it was great!

This is a very nice poem. It shows that at any age you can still believe. Maralee

Bunny,
Even reindeer need a pit stop now and then! Where better than your place? Good job!
