Morpheus gently took me to sleep,
with promises of dreaming to keep.
He whisked me away,
promised to stay,
but out of my psyche did leap.
The moment he left me I knew,
when he'd return, I had no clue.
He left in a flash,
with one quick-like dash,
for me, for now he was through.
I lay there with eyes so wide open,
you'd think he never had spoken.
I tossed and I turned,
you'd think I would learn,
my spirit totally broken.
As I lay with the sound of the clock,
from my mind, I tried to out-tock.
It persisted it's beat,
as I heard it repeat,
to throw, was to find it a rock.
The hours went by with dismay,
as I still tossed and turned as I lay.
When I finally heard,
his encouraging words,
as I listened to what he would say.
"Put out of your mind this great feat,
of not succumbing to peaceable sleep.
Your eyelids are heavy,
your breathing is steady,
this time, I will not retreat."
