The One That Got Away !
by Paulette Weaver
copyright 12-16-2001

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Marlin make azure waters dance,
majestic sailfish surface and prance.
Valor is my act on the sea,
strapped to the chair comfortably.

Bait fish swarm about as they play,
they scatter to get out of the way.
I get ready, the long battle ahead,
as I scour deep down the seabed.

My Chris Craft hydro-foils along,
I hold on to my line, be strong.
The beast takes us all for a ride,
as all 25 feet bob side-to-side.

To make this great feat go easy,
the galley mixes up some martinis.
I sip and be sure to drink slow,
to remain the star of the show.

I make sure to keep bait on the line,
'cause I know this is gonna take time.
These giants pursue a great sail,
heads never too close to their tail.

As I take this great 'moby' to task,
to stand how much more? I ask.
He's still very rich in his life,
as I continue to wrestle his might.

I smile as I make some headway,
he seems to get closer and stay.
Yet, he still won't come in,
perhaps this great giant will win.

I contemplate The Old Man and the Sea,
as I offer my foe this curt plea.
"come in and give up the ghost,
I'm gonna be king of the coast."

What happened next took my surprise,
so swift, too fast for my eyes.
My line so tight snapped in two,
this battle was finally through,
but for my efforts I won't apologize.

Nicely done, Paulette. I'm not much of a fisherman, but I could certainly imagine I was there. Great imagery. Jackie
