Christmas Ghost
by Beverley McInnis
copyright 12-30-2001

Age Rating: 18 to 127

All around me I feel the Christmas spirit
And in the streets I see
Holly and mistletoe
Hanging so joyously.

In amongst the coloured lights
Among the dredge and dreary,
I see the wounded souls walk by
Singing carols lacking beauty.

In the naked lights I spy
One wounded soul come stumbling by,
Begging for a dime to call
The everlasting joyful one.

Jingle Bells and Fa La La, I hear
Echoed from celebrated spirits standing near,
From those who have come to pray
That poverty shall slip away.

I sing to you who hold the light.
I sing to you who shed a tear.
Do not let blindness still your heart
For those of you who found,
They are the innermost quest of love and joy
They are all the girls and all the boys.

Sing a song of world peace.
Sing a song of hope.
Let joyous celebration creep
Into their wounded souls.
Lift a glass of human kindness.
Lift a glass of soul.
Christmas now shall rule the world
Forever now,
Take hold.

Robert, it's very true that people have different perspectives on the seasons depending upon their past and present histories. Still, I've seen the poorest of people celebrate the deepest, while the richest (monetary) are the saddest. Somewhere along the way, we've seem to have equated Christmas with "stuff" and money.

I really like the comment you made that "some of them singing carols with their lips and not from the heart." That is really true.

Thank you for your comments, Jackie, Karen and John. And John, I don't think you are wrong. I think that's true -doesn't matter your circumstances, the feelings are usually universal. Sometimes I think we become so wrapped up in the commercializm of Christmas that we "forget" the spirit.

An interesting write Bev that speaks volumes reagrding Christmas spirit. Christmas spirit in the sense (Peoples minds at Christmas).
More often than not it does not matter what circumstances you are in the Christmas spirit is all around, poor or rich the feelings are the same.

Hell! I am probably wrong again Bev, LOL.

Excellent, Bev! I kinda felt that way this Christmas, I really just didn't get into it this year. It was a rough one for me. Jackie
