Wake Me In The Morning

Wake Me In The Morning
Last thing you say to me is wake me in the morning.
Of course I ask what time.
You say, oh about 7:00 o clock.
With that you are off to bed.

I awake the next morning with a new day dawning.
Night before I tell you I'll awake you just one time.
Why is it you can not hear the alarm clock?
I mean if it was any closer it would be on your head.

I start waking you at 6:00 just to be sure.
Some days you get annoyed and just roll over.
Other times you just say I'm awake.
Then there are times when you yell I'm up!

Some days you say oh, just a few more minutes and I give you 15 minutes more.
Then you take the blankets and put them over your head and roll over.
How many times does it take to keep you awake?
So I get real close and in a firm voice say Wake the h_ll up!

6:30 and you are still lying there.
Having sweet dreams no doubt, while I am making morning coffee.
This being the fourth time trying to wake you.
This time you just say just let me lie here.

6:45 and still you are just lying there. I'm tempted to leave you there.
By the time you get your coffee I wonder how cold it will be.
Thought about pouring cold water on you...
However that would be a mistake I fear.

7:00 I come in my last and final time and if you don't get up,I'll leave you lying there.
How much more patient should I be?
To wake you what do I have to do?
So, I gave up.

You woke up about 11:00 that morning.
You asked me why I didn't wake you up.
Looking at you shaking my head and smiling.
Waking you is like a challenge.

The next time you want me to wake you, I'll give you fair warning.
I'll tell you once and you'd better get up!
I'm telling you this and not smiling.
And you say wake me up in the morning.
