For Margie, Resa, and Annie
You're my heroines
From the time you were tiny
you've battled with Life.
It flung all it could,
like a cold-bladed knife,
to pierce your young hearts
with sorrow and strife.
I saw all the sadness
in your little faces.
Yet children's dreams lingered
like soft drifting laces
to harbor your hopes;
in effect, an oasis.
But soon you grew up;
too soon some might say.
With little to guide you
or hold Life at bay,
you each chose your path:
on your own, all the way.
Within those young souls
a spark never died.
Though love, hope, and faith
seemed sometimes to hide,
you drew on the strength
you had nurtured inside.
So now you are grown;
life still throws you curves.
Like willows with courage
you bend and endure
strong winds that would crack
lesser women for sure.
You all have my deepest,
profound admiration.
When tempted to whimper
about tribulations,
I think of you always:
you're my inspiration.
