Time Out Column - Feb 2002

Who is the Most Fascinating
Person on the Planet?

I’m sure everyone knows what the answer is to that one. Why “me” of course! But “me”, actually means “you” while “you” means “me.” Hmmm… Did I lose anyone? No? I'll try harder.

Now “me”, I’m a writer. Or at least some people think I am. Please forgive “me” (God does) but like most writers, I double as an egotist.

At the moment, “me” has a problem. “Me” has written some articles that they had to print on fire-proof paper. One of the reasons was that I was beyond angry; livid is closer. But another reason was to get reaction, for someone to acknowledge that “me” exists and that sometimes “me” sure can make a lot of racket.

So far the effect has been rather the same as screaming down into the Grand Canyon – all I ever hear is my own echo. Now for an egotist like myself, it is helpful, in fact rather nice to hear your own voice, but it is so much better to hear another’s voice. Hmmm… Let me see… how can I describe the feeling… Ok, it’s kind’a like having sex with yourself – actually not really bad, but a partner makes it sooooooo much nicer.

So “me” is asking “you” to let “me” know that “you” know that “me” exists. Now… if that didn’t lose everybody, I’ve lost my touch. And how can “you” let “me” know? Easy. If “you” have a computer open your email program and send “me” an email. I’m sure “you” will have no problem telling “me” what “you” think of “me” and my article(s). “You” may even wish to tell “me” that I need to see a psychiatrist. Here we go:

Now the other way is is ‘snail-mail:’

I do have a phone too, but it is useless to give the number because I work days while evenings and weekends I am on-line with it when I’m not sleeping.

And what should “you” tell “me?” (other than I need to see a psychiatrist and take some creative writing classes – that, I already know.)

Why, talk about “ME” of course! In your case “me” means “you.” I love “me” very much but I also love “you” too and would absolutely love to hear about “you.” Who are “you?” Do “you” like reading? Sports? Sailing? Diving? Local politics? And if you’re female are “you” available? (see previous part of this article)

I’ve been told that I’m a good poet. It is often deep, has double-talk (like this article only more subtle) and usually has rhyme rhythm and meter. As an egotist, I most certainly agree. Frankly I think I’m better at poetry than prose, although some would argue that point.

Anyway, since I pour my heart into my poetry, and that is the most valuable part of “me,” I gift “you” this, a small piece of my heart.

“Too, too gentle”

'twas a sunset,
a sunset to remember,
brilliant orange, red
all glorious hues.
fit for september

but night follows sunset,
cold, dark and still.
I cry alone,
wanting to be,
begging to be,
someone I can't.
I just cannot be

My God and my friend,
please forgive me,
but I just cannot be
who I'd like to be.

I've hurt you terribly
You're crying too.
I know in my heart,
I know it is true,
but don't let me change you,
jade you, derange you,
you're just a lamb,
too trusting of wolves.

LOL Time Out is an entertainment guide/magazine for the Fla Keys. I have to submit my regular monthly column for the following month by the 15th. Many of these articles have been very caustic, often to get reaction. I've only got two or three letters from those articles in the last 5 yrs or so I've been doing the column... so let's see if this gets a 'taker'... oh, by the way, the column is titled "Marine Life"
