WHEN HEAVEN CALLS
by Bea Sheftel

I am not ready
when heaven calls
for my father.

Mother waits
on the other side
old hurts gone,
memories gilded
by the Divine

I lift my voice
for dad's in prayer,
while the Priest
anoints him
to prepare
my last gift
to my father.

I hear the angels sing,
receive his soul.
My father is ready
when heaven calls.

I am so sorry for your loss.

May I make just a couple of tiny suggestions? It is either 'The Divine', or 'the divine'. Don't mix them. Capitalize 'Dad's' and drop the cap on 'priest'.

I too lost my father a few short years ago but was unable to be at his side when he passed. The last words either of us said to each other were over the phone and they were, "I love you." For that alone, I will always be grateful.
