Dagger in My Heart
by Lyle Berry (Age: 61)
copyright 05-18-2001

Age Rating: 18 to 127

Poor fool, surviving on hurt
I take it tho’ my spirit bleeds
Too cruel, she’s treating me like dirt
Using me to suit her needs

My prayer, to take his place
To be the one lighting up those eyes
Unaware, I can tell by her face
Would it matter if she realized?

It’s like a dagger in my heart_________!
While I watch their bodies sway
It’s like a dagger in my heart_______!
When she touches him that way
She’s prob’ly whispering sweet things
‘Bout honeymoons and wedding rings
Can’t bear to watch their kisses start,
Each dance is tearing me apart
It’s like a dagger in my heart!

Too late, I waited too long
On the outside always looking in
My fate, another sad song
Listening as the music begins

It’s like a dagger in my heart_________!
While I watch their bodies sway
It’s like a dagger in my heart_______!
When she touches him that way
She’s prob’ly whispering sweet things
‘Bout honeymoons and wedding rings
Can’t bear to watch their kisses start,
Each dance is tearing me apart
It’s like a dagger in my heart!

Hi Lyle
This is nice. like song lyrics.
Do you write music too?
Why is there a line, is it a beat? missing words?
This is a story, a drama. I like the lines
"Too late, I waited too long
On the outside always looking in
My fate, another sad song
Listening as the music begins". Being the eternal onlooker, outsider is a huge metaphor.
and sad song as a fate is interesting.
Is this based on a personal experience? Sounds painful.

Would it matter if she realized? ... Makes you wonder, no? I've sured missed this site and I'm SO glad I'm back online... especially to dig and find such a treasure as this!

Lyle, travel down your page, there are many messages you have missed.
Sometimes these words are like a gentle kiss.
Other times ~ not. (G).

This is so goooooooood. I can just picture Alan Jackson doing this. Of course, I can picture Alan Jackson doing just about anything! LOL

I really meant it though. It is a fine piece of work.
