Oh! What I Wouldn't Do For A Smoke.
by Barb Russell
copyright 02-01-2002

Age Rating: 13 to 127

Oh! What I wouldn't do for a smoke.

For one last smoke I'd do any thing.
I'd climb the highest mountain,
I'd sail the highest Sea.
From deserts crawling on my knees.

I'd accept a bribe. Any thing!
No mountain.
Needing a cigarette with my morning coffee.
How bad can this be?

Out walking checking for butts.
Then some good old soul gives me a cigarette.
I could almost kiss his feet.
I say thank you as he walks away.

At home I am rolling my pennies for butts.
GPC- the bums cigarettes.
Marlboro, A real treat.
Got enough for one pack today.

To smoke a cigarette I'd do most any thing.
I'd stand out in the freezing cold.
Smoke out in the most humid heat.
All for a smoke.

I'd even sing.
I'd even sell my soul. ( Well maybe not).
I'd even give you my seat.
Just please let me have a smoke?

Twenty years of smoking.
I am getting old.
It's not so neat.
I cough and sputter and say,
Can you spare a smoke?

Oh! What I'd do for a smoke.

I can relate as well! They can say what they want about the hard stuff, but the pull of nicotine outweighs anything else.

As I sit here smoking Barb I think about the times when I was less fortunate and did not have any, oh yes, I would of killed for one of those life preserving life killing items.

A thought provoking poem,

John

I decided that my life wasn't going to revolve around that white cylinder. It took me several tries to quit, but boy am I glad I did. I hope you can stop too, it sure isn't good for you.....

Jonesing for a butt, are we? Heehee... sorry, shouldn't make light of it. I saw my parents go through it. That's one activity I'm glad I never started. I think I have them to thank for it.
