Valentine
by Jackie Moranty
copyright 02-10-2002

Age Rating: 4 to 127

Voracious plans made
Always get waylaid,
Laboring cows don't understand.
Every year was the same,
No romance came
Till after we could brand.
I should make a day
Near the end of May
Every ranch relationship could withstand.

This is what Valentine's Day ends up being on the ranch. Comes right in the middle of calving time.

A cowboy's work( or cowgirl's ) is never done! Thanks, Anthony

There you go, Marilyn. This is it. We are never for a lack of chores to do. Jackie

Thanks Jackie. I always wondered why, when I was growing up, my farm buddies weren't as free to come and go as I was.

Thanks, Maralee, Billy and Kay Lee, yeah, the cows get all the fun in February and March, come April and May we brand and then, we get a little break, not much, but at least it's not 24/7. Jackie

This is a poem that I imagine a lot og people can relate to as we are all busy when holidays come around.

Hello, David and Peggy, I'm glad you liked this one. David, I was in on a lamb deal one year and it's much harder than calving. That was real work. I love your site, David, I'll come visit often. Glad I could be first for something! LOL Jackie

Happy Valentines Day Jackie. I liked this one. Peggy

Thanks, Nan. LOL, I didn't know that one was worthy of saying again, much less putting in a book, but yeah, it does happen every year. Jackie

I meant the comment in the comments section, that is about cattle getting lucky. heh.

Great Valentine Jackie... heheheh, and your last comment is a classic... belongs in Bartlett's Quotations. heeeeeeeeehehe

The cattle get lucky LONG before I do, happens every dang year. Jackie

Ain't that the truth, Jackie! Ah heck, Valentine's is created to keep the flower, candy, jewellary and card companies in business. ;0)

Great poem, loved this showing of ranch life and all the romance that goes with it...for the cattle. LOL!

Thanks, Janet and Bob. Bob, I'm really surprised at you and Bubba, I figured that you'd come up with something quite eloquently redneck to pass along on this special greeting card holiday! Jackie

Who says Valentine's Day has to be in February? That person has obviously never been to Wyoming. Good job, Jackie... this one is tough! (As evidenced by the fact that I didn't even try... cluck, cluck, cluck)

02-10-2002 Jackie Moranty

LOL, well at least something is getting romanced out here, the cattle! Thanks Karen. Jackie

Thanks, Kelly and Robert. Unfortunately with the way calving goes, your appetite is ruined for days. I managed to be able to celebrate Mother's Day, usually at a branding, but it wasn't because of Valentine's Day! I think it was called Tequilla Night. LOL Jackie
