Valentine Challenge
by Beverley McInnis
copyright 02-11-2002

Age Rating: 18 to 127

heart ripped in shreds
tears falling
searing
burning
casket slammed shut
nailed
spikes driven deep
roses thrown
scattered on
barren lands
dust blowing in the winds
ashes of your love
caught in currents
blinding the sun
wine bottles rolling
on the floor
reminder of the dark night
that passed
alone
all that is left
is the shadows
in the corners
the mirrors
in the heart
valentine's day
ripping cards in two
dust in the wind
ashes in the eyes
darkness deep
sadness engulfs
it's only another day
without you

How true... sad but true. I know one day I was at the mall to get away from the hell I was living in (separation and divorce) and I realized as I walked that EVERYONE I saw was holding hands with SOMEONE. Halfway through the mall I realized it was Valentines day. So much for getting away from it all, eh? *smile*

I've missed being at Pnp, and I've missed all my old friends. It's so sad to see that many aren't around any longer. I was forced to take a leave of absence due to no internet being available... hopefully you'll come back too? *fingers crossed*

Take care, you.

BrytEyz

beautiful but sad

Thank you Robert, Bob and Kay Lee. Valentine's isn't the easiest day for many.

Even a sad tale well told leaves us better off than we were. Thanks, Beverly.

A powerful reminder that love does not stay,
and heartbreak is a beat away.

Thank you everyone! I'm really at a loss for words on how to comment on all you've said. I really appreciate the feedback. I believe we forget that this one day in February can create so many different feelings and not all are about romance.

Bev,

This poem is very powerful. Words strike hard and remain. Thanks for this write. Peggy

POWERFUL, vivid images. Excellent write, Bev.

Like the casket lid, the last two lines nail this one. A lost love is like a death, isn't it? Maybe worse... Bold, thought-provoking, vivid images of everything we fear. Terrific, Bev. Very, very good.

Wow, Bev, pretty powerful. I guess we're way past the greeting cards now. Jackie
