After You - A Modern C&W Ballad
by Lyle Berry (Age: 61)
copyright 02-12-2002

Age Rating: 13 to 127

Will I get by?
Yes, I’ll make do.
‘S what I tell my friends come callin’;
Yeah, I’ll probably make it through.

And do I still cry?
I guess I do.
Can’t seem to stop these tears from fallin’;
It’s like the dam broke after you.

After you,
There’s no one else;
I might fool the World forever,
But I’ll never fool myself.
After you,
No new love will do;
If I tried to love another,
I’d make believe that she was you
and be living in a fantasy -
another dream that won’t come true.
After you.

Do I still call?
I gave that up.
Like beating my head against the wall,
It feels so good when I stop.

I can’t recall,
Were you my friend?
I guess that we were only lovers,
Now it’s pointless to pretend.

‘Cause after you,
There’s no one else;
I might fool the World forever,
But I’ll never fool myself.
After you,
No new love will do;
If I tried to love another,
I’d make believe that she was you
and be living in a fantasy -
another dream that won’t come true.
After you.

I’d be living in a fantasy -
another dream that won’t come true.
After you.

This was so well witten.
I liked how you answered your own questions, that was really neat. This is one of your older pieces, so I hope your feeling better by now.
Keep up the good work!
