Art Class
by Sharron Tyrrell
copyright 02-12-2002

Age Rating: 4 to 127

The color of the day is red
Painted hearts on paper canvas
Tiny faces smudged with red
It’s hard to remain to serious

Tomorrow it’s blue with pen in hand
A self portrait starts to form
Long curly locks and eyes of green
Standing in a lightning storm

Elephants march across the page
In shades of rainbow colors
So real you hear their trumpets blare
As they carry forth great warriors

When you are just a kid in a school art class
Your imagination takes the lead
A purple horse or a cat of blue
To the rules you need not heed

Isn't it sad when we learn it's not "right" to make elephants blue or purple or green? As "big people" we're left to write about it, and you did that so well.

Great poem, Sharron. I've got a fridge full of art and a few boxes stored around. It will be great to look back and see this when my daughter is grown up. Jackie
