Green Stew
by Peggy Bertrand
copyright 02-14-2002

Age Rating: 1 to 127

I was walking through the forest on a journey. That is when I heard a joyful tune being whistled next to the thistle bush along the path.

I crept up for a mere chance to catch a glimpse of who kept the tune whistling about the air. I blinked my eyes twice to surfice what I had seen before me. A wee little old man a child’s height dressed in green from head to toe. To my delight I did perceive I had happened upon a Leprechaun dressed in green whistling a joyful tune in the forest.

He danced about whistling as he prepared a pot of green stew.
Peeling vegetables of all shapes he chopped and then hopped them over to the stew pan. I watched from a distance so as not to alarm him for after all he had not harmed me in any way. I was so enthused by his appearance for I had never seen a Leprechaun. A fairy tale I had always been told about them yet never did I ever see a real one.

He seemed to be a merry little soul as he went about his way, doing as he may. He was preoccupied with his dinner that he didn't notice that he had a visitor viewing his every move from a thistle bush. He poured himself a bowl of the green stew. He broke off a piece of bread and dipped it into the middle of his bowl. I watched as he continued to finish his dish of green stew.

He then sighed and was quiet content with a full belly he settled for a nap under a tree near by. I rubbed my eyes in bewilderment that I had seen a leprechaun. He closed his eye's and just as I prepared to turn and leave for home. I seen him opens his eyes and look right at me he winked his eye towards my way.

Will, I tell anyone about the Leprechaun? Would they ever believe me? I fear not it is just a fairytale, you’re told about but if you ever walk in the forest and see a leprechaun. Whose cooking a pot of green stew and he winks at you then you will Know that he is not a fairytale.

For you see there is a bit of truth in every fairytale.
