The Dragon's Lady
She has feathered wings of stone,
the marble fountain, all alone.
In the City Park she stands
mute, with an outstretched hand.
Looks to the sky, face so fair,
watching for him, will he be there.
Dragon red, crouched above the park
hides in a corner shaded and dark.
The top of the building is his lair.
Alone, forsaken, forgotten there.
Carved of red granite long ago
watching the fountain down below.
Virgin of the fountain, oh so fair
watches the dragon up in the air.
She of marble, he of stone,
never together, always alone.
Her heart of stone is with him there.
He longs to touch her long black hair.
When moonlight shines so bright
Dragon and Virgin dance in the night.
Shadows dancing, weave and sway,
love comes together, they shall stay.
Holding each other under the moon.
Knowing the dancing will end too soon.
The virgin and dragon's night romance,
Only in shadows are they entranced.
Together in-twined a midnight dance,
in the moonlight is their only chance.
Morning; softly moonlight fades away
Again reappears the garish day.
Feathered virgin, the fountain of stone
granite dragon both wait ~ all alone.
