Sun of Spring, in winter days
Brings colour on the faces
Of two little boys
Playing football on the square.
Sun of Spring, in winter days,
Makes the world look friendly.
People can take more from each other
As tall as I am, I am feeling small.
Sun of Spring, in winter days,
“Mom, com and play…I would like that a lot!”
and before I know it, I am playing football…
Sun of Spring, in winter days,
Playing football with my two sons.
I see enough…don’t have to ask.
The pleasure of playing together
Will keep in my mind for a long time.

The original poem was written in Dutch, on that afternoon in January. Here follows the Dutch text.
Lentezon in winterdagen
Lentezon in winterdagen
Tovert kleur op het gezicht
Van twee jongetjes. die spelen
Voetbal… op het plein.
Lentezon in winterdagen,
Laat de wereld vriend’lijk zijn
Mensen kunnen meer verdragen…
Hoe groot ik ben, ik voel me klein.
Lentezon in winterdagen,
“Mam, doe mee!, dat vind ik fijn!”
en voor ik ’t weet, ben ik gezwicht…
Lentezon in winterdagen…
Voetballen met mijn beide zoons…
Ik zie genoeg, hoef niets te vragen.
De pret, die we samen beleven
Zal lang in mijn gedachten zweven.
