A tale from the Tale Gazette - Swimming in Lake Turtle?
by Bianca Boonstra
copyright 03-01-2002

Age Rating: 4 to 127

It is rather crowded in “The Talk House”. All the animals are gathered there for a cool drink, because it is hot.
Bert the Wolf is busy, bringing lots of cold lemonade to the animals.

Bert the Wolf: “Aouu! Louis, dear friend, here is your lemonade”.
Louis the Fox: “Thank you very much, Bert, I sure don’t know what to do without you”.

Miss Starch comes in.
She sighs, and sits down on a seat. “Water! Please, bring me some water”.

Bert the Wolf is already on his way, with a glass of water, and a wet towel, to refresh the forehead of Miss Starch.

Miss Starch: “Oh, Bert, you are so sweet! It is so warm outside, I don’t know what to do in these temperatures”
Mister Raven: “We can ask Mister Owl for his advice. He is a wise animal, and knows what to do.
We can ask Zoof, to go to Mister Owl, he is the fastest animal in our forest”.
Zoof the Rabbit: ”Zoof Zoof, I am already on my way…”

Zoof ran, and ran, and found Mister Owl sitting in the shadow, of the tree where he lives in.
Mister Owl was reading the latest issue of the Tale Gazette, and shook his wise head.
“It is too warm for this time of the year. I guess the best thing to do, for the animals is find some water to swim in…”
Zoof didn’t have to ask Mister Owl for his advice anymore, he had heard enough. And ran back to “The Talk House”, where everybody was waiting for him.

Zoof the Rabbit: “Zoof Zoof”.

Miss Starch: “Well, dear Zoof. Tell me what Mister Owl did say to you”.

Zoof the Rabbit: “Zoof Zoof. Mister Owl said that it was way too hot for us animals. And that it was wise to take a swim.”

Mister Raven: “The only place with water I know is the lake where Tubby Turtle lives. That lake is big enough to take a swim”.

Louis the Fox: “We just can’t go there, and swim without permission. We have to ask Tubby Turtle first, if it is okay.”

And before they even had noticed, Zoof the Rabbit was already gone, to ask Tubby Turtle, if he should allow the other animals in his lake, for a swim.
Zoof found Tubby under a tree. Tired he was, and he fell over his feet.

Zoof the Rabbit : “Zoof Zoof! It is so hot! All the animals are complaining about the heat. And Mister Owl advised us, to take a swim. And now is my question to you: do you allow us to swim in Lake Turtle?”

Tubby Turtle: “Uh, yes, of course…”
Zoof didn’t hear it anymore. He was so tired, that he fell asleep.

Tubby decided to go to “The Talk House”, and tell the animals that they are all welcome in Lake Turtle. All the animals were happy, and went for a swim.
Zoof woke up, when the animals arrived, and they all had a lot of fun in the water.

Since that day, Lake Turtle is known as the Tale Forest Swimming Lake.

Mister Owl: “And now, get to sleep in your nice warm beds. And remember: Close your eyes, and your little mouths. Goodnight!”
