"It was an average binary system. The dual suns orbited each other in a monotonous path as the days slowly rolled on. Suddenly, a large rock, thrown into a wild orbit, flew towards the luminous fireballs. The large rock soared so close to the stars that the gravity pulled the boulder into orbit. An astronomer named Hubert Si’Lik found the rock years later. He wrote that the rock had been strip mined and launched out of it’s original orbit with nuclear explosions. Si’Lik was the first man to send a mission to this stone. He found that if we humans would allow, this rock would support life. Unfortunately, Si’Lik died on his way back to his home, Brennyn, because of a nuclear reactor explosion. But, in his memory, the people of the Brennynian Senate decided to name the rock-planet in his memory. And that is why we live here on Si’Lik." –The Astronomers Guide to The Outlying Systems

Princess Julia Kade rushed into her quarters and ungracefully threw her porto-computer on her bed. I hate training! she thought as she slipped an audio-disk into her audio player. She sighed as she listened to her music, singing some bars. "The roses in the window box have tilted to one side. Everything about this house was born to grow and die. Oh, it doesn’t seem a year ago to this very day, you said ‘I’m sorry honey, if I can’t change the pace, I can’t face another day…’ " Slowly her worries faded away.

Prince Gil Kade swiftly ran into the room. He glanced at his sister, Julia, and listened to the music. Musta had a rough day, he thought as he picked up on the singing. "And love lies bleeding in my hand. Oh, it kills me to think of you with another man. I was playing rock and roll and you were just a fan, but my guitar couldn’t hold you, so I split the band. Love lies bleeding in my hand!"

Julia looked up at her brother. "Hi, Gil." She sighed.

"Jewel, what’s wrong?"

"I HATE training!"

"So do I."

Julia, or ‘Jewel’ as everyone knew her, looked at her older brother and sighed. Gil was the heir to the Si’Lik throne, and would probably do a good job. For seventeen, he was mature, noble, and good to the people. Julia, on the other hand, was a little fourteen year old hyper-active brunette who threw a fit if she didn’t get her way.

"Gil, why do we haveta do it? We’re royalty! I want an ice-cream!!"

"Jewel, you won’t have to worry about it for too much longer. Okay?"

"Okay." Julia and Gil walked out of the room and into the dining hall, where maids and butlers were cleaning the area for the evening meal. One of the maids came to them.

"What can I do for you, Your Highnesses?" she asked happily.

"I want an ice-cream cone," Julia stated.

"Right away, Princess! Thank you for your instructions." The maid ran into the kitchen. Julia giggled.

"She’s silly!"

"Shhhh," Gil hushed her as the maid came back.

"Here you are, Your Highness. A double dipped, triple scooped, chocolate-vanilla swirl cone with extra sprinkles."

"Yummy!!" Julia eagerly grabbed the cone from the maid and slurped on it. "Mmmmmmmmm!!"

"HELP ME!"

King Nova awoke from his nap. What was that? he wondered as he crawled out of his bed, his pajamas sagging. Again he heard it, a scream of terror. This time, though, he could tell the source. His wife, Queen Sparkle, was screaming for help. Sparkie!, he thought as he raced toward the east tower with fear for his wife’s life. Sparkle was Nova’s whole life, his reason to go on. He had to help her.
Nova reached the stairs, attempting to catch his breath. Note to self: lose weight! he thought as he raced up the stairs. He came to the door and typed in the access code, 436682. The door slid open to reveal Queen Sparkle, cornered by a lanky man, screamed at the top of her lungs. The man grinned evilly. Fear entered the queen’s mind as she edged to the left. The man blocked her. Oh God, I’m gonna die, she thought as she screamed again. The man aimed a SALP (Semi-Automatic Laser Pistol) at the queen, turned and grinned at the king, and fired.

"NOOOOOOO!!" Nova yelled as he ran to his wife. He caught her in mid-air and held her.

"Nova…" She whispered.

"My love, don’t leave me!"

"Esprita… de… alla may… harta," she murmured in her native tongue, and was silenced.

The man laughed mischievously and aimed at the King, who was sobbing over the body of his love. "Bye Bye!" he exclaimed, and fired the SALP. The king flew backwards and crashed against the wall. Just then, Gil and Julia arrived on the scene. They had heard the screams earlier, and came to investigate. They looked at their dead mother and dying father. Julia gasped and grabbed Gil’s hand. Gil glared at the man, his eyesight blurred with tears.

"I promise you, you will suffer greatly for what you have done." Gil declared, making the words burn in the man’s mind.

"We’ll see, little man. We’ll see." The man climbed to the window and gracefully jumped out into the wind. Gil ran to the window and looked out. The man was gone.

"Did you get the report on the man, JD?"

"Yes sir. Name’s Richie Brad. He’s a Sergeant for the Meany Head Army. But I don’t understand why the guy came to kill the King and Queen. Wuz the deal?"

JD Tomlyn glanced at Art A’Muss, his senior officer and friend. Art looked at the computer screen.
"I dunno, JD, but this guy, and the Empire itself, is probably trouble."

"You got that right," a voice said from behind. The two men turned around to see the new arrival, Gil Kade.

"Hello, Your Highness." JD and Art said in unison.

"Cut the chit-chat, men, I need your help. The Empire is evil, and I want to get rid of it. I’m going to become an Upriser. I need you to fight with me and maybe we can avenge my parents’ death."

"But sir…"

"Listen," Gil interrupted, "If it worked in the past, it can work now. Are you with me?"

"I will die for my Prince and Princess," the two men stated.

"Thank you, men. I will forever be in your debt." Gil said as he left the room.

Julia sat in her room, softly crying to herself. Her parents were here just two days ago, but now they’re gone. Why did this have to happen to me? Mommy and Daddy didn’t deserve this. I wish they could come back and stay here forever, she thought as she rocked herself gently. She knew it couldn’t happen, they were gone, lost. She told herself she would see them in heaven, but that didn’t help much. She sniffled and started sobbing again.

"Jewel?" Gil inquired from her doorway.

"Yes?"

"We’re going to get rid of the man that assassinated our parents. Don’t worry, Jewel, we will be at peace again."

"Gil…"

"I know it hurts, Jewel. I hurt too. We’ve gotta be strong. We will avenge our parents’ death, you can have my word on that."

Hey all!! I just wanted to say I wrote this as a project in 9th grade Creative Writing, and after posting it I realised I never finished it! Some things are better that way, though. When you find something out of the archives, its better not to try to finish it, as to not cheapen the humor. Anyway, Thank you for reading my story!

Oh, and yes, even in the future people listen to Elton John. :D

Looks like Jewel's in for growing up real quick. Nice job on this, Amber!

One comment--did you mean for this second "I" to be "I" or "you"?:

"I promise you, I will suffer greatly for what you have done." Gil declared, making the words burn in
the man’s mind.
