News At Eleven

NEWS AT ELEVEN...

Today the news was bad,
Air unbreathable, water undrinkable,
Wildlife gone, never to return,
Stars that use to guide tall sailing ships
Faded within the smog covering cities.
News at eleven.

Where has it gone?
Why are we being punished?
When will we learn?
Everyone has a theory but no answers,
Fossil fuels depleted, food inedible.
News at eleven.

The Creator weeps but tears no longer soft
But turned into acid rain which kills foliage.
Pesticides kill the weevil but also kill the condor.
Genetic splicing give us ripe fruit, but deformed babies.
Fish swim upstream to spawn but stopped by dams.
News at eleven.

I know where it has gone,
I know why we are punished.
We will learn but will be too late.
Theories are nice but facts hard to face.
Fossil fuels depleted cars choke our breath
News at eleven.

Now we are past,
Forests gone and dead.
Atmosphere gone forever,
Rock stand silent over this dead world
While the Creator tries to heal again.
News at eleven...
