Clerihew

Another form of poetry is the Clerihew is a comic verse consisting of two couplets and a specific rhyming scheme, usually aabb. The poem is about and deals with a person and character within the first rhyme.


Bugs bunny
Thought he was so funny
He was rowing a boat onshore
For he wanted to explore

Very helpful article! I like the example too as it gives a broader idea on how to write Clerihew. I have never tried it but after reading this, I am encouraged to write some. Thank you for this piece.

Who invents all these things, anyway, and *where* do they come up with the names? I thought "the Clerihew" would be about an exotic shore bird similar to a curlew.
