Weeping Willow
by Bianca Boonstra
copyright 03-10-2002

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Majestic but sad
Standing in the field
On the other side of the road,
Down by the riverside.

The weeping willow
Leaves hanging down
Touching the water

I cry by the humans
Passing by in a huge speed
Paying no attention
To their environment.

I weep while I see
That someone who I liked a lot
Passed away…
and was buried on the churchyard.
Near the church
On the other side of the road.

But a smile appears
When I see that child
Pointing his fingers out to me
Asking his mother
“What is the name of that tree?”

Her answer flatters me…
“A weeping willow, there, you see?
Her leaves are waving on the rhythm
Caused by water and by wind…”

I would be like that weeping willow
My leaves are hanging down…
Waving gently on the rhythm
As human life passes in a huge speed
Paying no attention…to me.

You state so grandly what so many of us feel..that's what makes a poem great!

When I was a child, the willow was my best
friend, (G), maybe still is. I loved this.

Quite a vibrant poem here. You capture the feeling of the weeping willow very well. Thanx :)

Brilliant imagery and feelings conveyed throughout...I feel much like a weeping willow myself sometimes.
