Beating Still
by Peggy Bertrand
copyright 03-12-2002

Age Rating: 13 to 127

My heart does beat
One could steal it if a cheat

A heart knows love is sweet
Your smile is always a treat

When I see you I try to be neat
Always hoping this day we meet

Faster is the racing of my feet
I drop my eyes every time to be discreet

On my forehead perspiration begins to secrete
Faster is the pace of my heartbeat

Maybe today I will greet
You who could make me complete

Your stride is faster rhythm more upbeat
My stride is rather opposite downbeat

I fell farther behind your feet
They were faster we did not meet

I will retreat
My heart goes on with beat

Is our dear Dr. Seuss in love?
Does he wistfully gaze at stars above,
to sigh and say and shout "ENOUGH!"?

Hearts be broken and out of love
When pain persists and tends to shove
We needn't more of that kind of stuff

All given and lost away to love,
Say with voices loud and gruff
All curses ye chance to think of

Heartache never wears kids gloves
and wins the fight in spite of
Our dear Dr. Seuss is in love

I liked this one a lot. I've been there and done that too.. :-) I think the anticipation of that "hopeful" moment is a killer.

This should have music set to it.
