Outside of Myself

Would you be my rain
To wash away all my hurt and pain?
Would you be my heartbeat
To keep rhythm with that falling rain?
Would you be my eyes
To show me the way to be?
Would you tear out your soul
From the mortal plane
To give me life, to let me breathe?
Would you desecrate temples
And slaughter all the priests
To help me figure out
Just what it is I believe?
Would you torture all the birds
To help me find out why they sing?
Would you carve out the voice
Of the most annoying one
Just to share in the silence
It would bring?
Would you steal money for me,
Mug a meter maid on the beat
Stuff the tickets in her face
And never admit defeat?
I would take you right here and now
Just because of all you are for me
I would force you down
Onto the grass
Wishbone thighs
Through the looking glass
I would be your first
If you could help erase the scars of time
Help to make me forget
All the changes and decisions made
Help to remember peacefulness
Once felt inside
Yet given away
Help me find it again
Just by being you
Help me to step outside of my fortress
And finally accept the truth
Where the world can bite like the blowing wind
Tears in my eyes
I'm not really crying
I'm not upset
I'm just so happy
Baby, it's just the wind
And I'm finally being given a chance to breathe it in
Finally given a chance to remember who I am
Outside of myself
I can see the truth
I can see what I've been hiding from
I can see the reason I am who I am
And why I need you to be my shining savior
For you save me from pain
Save me from self-hate
As you let me be your returning sunshine
Making love out in the rain
