Girl Missing
Chapter 6
by Peggy Bertrand
copyright 03-13-2002

Age Rating: 18 to 127

Chet stood checking the message board and news board in the hallway for any new postings. “Hey Chet” someone called from up the hall. He turned it was Gary.

“What do you have planned for later?” he asked. Chet replied,” Not sure what Liz has planned.”

“Well Trish wanted me to ask you and the guys over for a Barbeque later this evening.”

“That sound good.” “I will get back to you with an answer after I talk with Liz.” Replied Chet. “ Well if I’m going to catch her before she leaves for work I had better get a move on it.”

Gary had already invited Aaron and Bruce to come along also. They agreed that would be great. He even encouraged Aaron to being a date.

To which Aaron replied "a date who has time to date? "He didn’t have a steady and it had been over a month since his last date. And the two of them were not very compatible.

Each officer signed out for the night and went their own way home to start their two-day’s off.

Upon arriving at home Aaron changed into his jogging clothes and headed up the street.

He ran nearly every morning before going to sleep after work. He was very fit and in shape. He ran his usual route about three miles. Waving hi to neighbors and people he met along the way.

He had a good run this morning he had worked up a good sweat and his heart was beating fast. Ran up his porch leaned down to pick up the newspaper. His eyes scanned the front page.

There was Karly's picture the girl they had been in search of that night.

Aaron opened the door and went into his house. He pored a glass of orange juice and sipped it as he read the story about the missing girl. He felt so bad that they couldn’t find her or a lead. And most of all he felt sad for her family.

He put the haunting paper article down and headed for the shower. A warm showered he thought and then it’s off to dreamland. I’m tired he thought to himself.

He pulled the Dark curtains and shades to block the sun. And then he lay down in his bed covering himself with the sheet. He sighed a good long sigh ready for sleep.

“Liz I’m home”. Chet called from the hallway. She was getting ready for work.

She replied,” Honey your breakfast is ready in the microwave.” He smiled,” Thanks sweetie.”

“Liz by the way Gary invited us over to a barbeque tonight with him and Trish and the guys.” Chet pored himself a cup of coffee waiting for her answer.

“Sounds great Honey” “Let Trish and Gary know were on.”” And what they need me to bring?” she answered him.

“You know I thought so also.” “I will call them before going to bed.” He replied.

“Chet I m leaving for work now see you later honey.” She said “And by the way did you hear about the girl missing last night.” She asked him in a puzzling way.

“Yes dear the guys and me spent the last half of the night following leads and trying to find her. “ he answered with regret.

“That is awful that poor family.” “You tried honey that is all you can do.” She said with concern.

“Liz have a super day sweetie see you tonight.” He said as he winked at her before she left.

Haunting thoughts entered his mind. I have a 12 year old that could have been my daughter. He finished his breakfast.

Called Gary to let him know that they would be over for supper. And for Trish to give Liz a call at work to let her know what she can bring along. They both agreed it would be relaxing.

They both said good-bye.

He headed off to bed.
